Legislatively Speaking by Claudette Bruck, CCIM

Dear Members:

Yes, I know you have received a number of requests that you vote YES on Amendment 2; and, there is a very important reason for that. I know you have also received communications by renegades asking you to vote NO for Amendment 2; so, I am going to give you sufficient information to VOTE YES YES YES, once again.

For the last ten years there has been a 10% cap on increases in real estate tax on non-homestead properties; which would include commercial properties, multi-family rentals, retail, industrial, second homes…and everything other than owner-occupied residential, government and other tax-exempt real estate. Voting YES will ensure that the 10% cap will be permanent.

At a CCIM Fort Lauderdale/Broward Real Estate Symposium yesterday, our own Broward County Property Appraiser, Marty Kiar, spoke in favor of Amendment 2. If Amendment 2 does not pass, everyone will be affected, especially those owning property other than your personally occupied residence. Why? Because your taxes could be greatly increased on any non-homestead property that you own, and you can expect to see increases as businesses pass that increase onto the consumer …that would by you and me!

Once again, I implore you to Vote YES on Amendment 2 so that we may be successful in protecting our clients, consumers and all those affected.

DO IT NOW, and, please encourage those around you to do the same by explaining the impact on EVERYONE if we fail to pass Amendment 2.

Let your voice be heard!

Thank you.

Claudette Bruck,
CCIM Chapter Legislative Chair
